Watch out for Ticks!
A tick bite causes redness and itching and can cause Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. If the bitten area becomes swollen, or if you develop a headache, fever, rash, or flu-like symptoms, see a physician and report the tick bite. Tick-borne diseases diagnosed early can easily be treated with antibiotics.
You don't have to stay out of the woods to protect yourself from ticks. Wear light-colored clothing to make ticks easier to se and remove. Wear a hat, long-sleeved shirt, and long-pants tucked into your socks. Check yourself often and remove any ticks immediately. Tick repellents may also be effective. Ticks must be attached for several hours before they transmit disease.
