Decomposers

Decay is part of nature's recycling system. Many kinds of specialized organisms called decomposers are involved in the decay process. Bactgeria, fungi, and insects are familiar examples of decomposers. They use enzymes and a special digestive process to break down dead plant materials, thus returning the nutrients to the soil.
