Dragonfly

Hovering, darting, and souring through the air near marshes or water, the dragonfly hunts and catches small insects on the wing. Because it can turn its head in all directions, it can search out prey all around with its huge compound eyes. About 2-4 inches long, the body is slender and usually brown or black in color, often with colorful markings. The thin almost translucent wings are held straight out when at rest. A powerful flier, some species have been clocked at 60 miles per hour.
